Ben Raine receives his county cap
Leicestershire CCC is delighted to announce that vice captain Ben Raine has been awarded his county cap. The all-rounder was presented with the gold fox by Head Coach Paul Nixon before yesterday's Vitality Blast fixture against Notts Outlaws.
Raine has been a consistent performer across all formats for the Foxes, scoring 2,499 runs and claiming 252 wickets since making his debut in 2014. As part of those fine figures, Raine has claimed 188 first-class wickets at 28.21 while also scoring 1,871 runs.
Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Paul Nixon said: “The coaching staff and I are delighted with the contribution that Ben Raine makes to the club on a daily basis. Ben represents everything a fox should be with his high standards, winning attitude and quality performances.
“Ben is a brilliant competitor with bat, ball and in the field, and his performances have been both consistent and matchwinning. Ben fully deserves the award of the gold fox.”
The 26-year-old is Leicestershire CCC’s leading wicket-taker in the Specsavers County Championship in 2018 with 34 taken at a highly impressive 22.17 apiece. He has also contributed 274 runs at a handy average of 27.40.
To underline his reliability, Raine has taken at least three wickets on seven of the 13 occasions that he has bowled, and has made four scores between 36 and 47 as well as a half-century against Glamorgan CCC.
Raine has also posted career-bests with the bat and ball in List A cricket in 2018, scoring 83 after being promoted to bat at No.3 at Worcestershire Rapids, and taking 3 for 31 in the first Royal London One-Day Cup match at Northants Steelbacks.
The left-hander’s quickfire 23 off just seven balls helped the Foxes towards their record T20 chase at Northants Steelbacks in the opening game of the Vitality Blast campaign and he regularly bowls his full allocation of overs in the shortest format of the game.
